The Scarecrows at Tatton Park are hiding in some secret places this February half-term. Will you be able to spot them?…

From 18 to 26 February 26, Tatton’s ever popular Scarecrow Festival returns to the award-winning Gardens and working Farm of this historic estate in Knutsford. With a reputation for originality and surprise, this entertaining family event continues to be an annual favourite for children looking for simple outdoor fun and creativity during the school half-term holidays.

This year, though, something magical is happening in our 50-acre gardens. Designed by our education and gardening teams, children can follow a trail to uncover the secret location of mystical fairies, cheeky gnomes and mischievous elves, each representing a colour of the rainbow.

Head Gardener Simon Tetlow confirms, “This year we are inspired by the gnomes who work the night shift here in the gardens doing vital work, alongside the pixies and elves, in keeping the garden spic and span.”

Along with our magical night residents, the intrigue continues with scarecrows dressed as Sherlock Holmes, a spy, a masquerading couple, and, the symbol of rebirth and growth in the spring, the Green Man. Often depicted on ancient buildings and churches with a face sprouting leaves, branches or vines, Tatton Park’s original secret Green Man sculpture can be found in the middle of the Garden’s maze. Try not to get lost amidst the twists and turns within its hedged walls!

At the Farm, our resident scarecrows are hiding throughout the farmyard. Children can have a go at making a mini-version of their own and play in the den-building area. Check www.tattonpark.org.uk for timed sessions.

Farm open 11am-4pm, last entry 3pm. Gardens open 10am – 4pm (last entry 3pm). Adult £7, Child £5 (4-15 years), Family £19 (two adults and up to three children). Totally Tatton tickets: entry to Gardens and Farm (note: Mansion closed for restoration during low season): Adult £13, Child £7, Family £33.00. National Trust members get 50% discounted entry to the Farm and free entry to the Gardens. Vehicle park entry charge of £6 (including National Trust members). Walkers and cyclists can enter Tatton Park free of charge.
