Psychedelic “space rockers” Hawkwind will be in concert at Buxton Opera House in May.
Formed in 1969 by former busker Dave Brock, the group has seen numerous line-ups throughout the years, but Brock has remained firmly at the helm. Following Hawkwind’s performance at the first Glastonbury Festival, they are widely acknowledged with creating the “space rock” genre of music.
After the success of the single Silver Machine in 1972, the band went on tour with the mind blowing Space Ritual, which set the precedent for all future Hawkwind shows. The barrage of light, sound, dance and theatrics has since become a hallmark of their colourful shows.
Recently the band has picked up numerous accolades and toured major festivals across Europe (and staging their very own ‘Hawkfest’ on the Isle of Wight). Joining founding member Dave Brock in the line-up is Buxton based Mr Dibs on vocals and bass, who has been a long-time collaborator with the band.
Hawkwind performs at Buxton Opera House on Tuesday 23 May at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £25. To buy tickets call the Box Office on 01298 72050 or email jmather@boh.org.uk
