Pedal power boost for business

Businesses involved in tourism can benefit from a new £150k grant scheme aimed at boosting the local cycling economy.

Supported by the Peak District National Park and Derbyshire Dales District Council, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) can learn more about the grants at the launch of ‘Pedal Peak for Business’ on Tuesday May 23 (6pm to 8pm) at Hassop Station.

The new project aims to help SMEs to be more competitive and to gain a greater understanding of the cycle tourism market.  The initiative is part of the £1.49million Growing the Visitor Economy in Derbyshire programme, which is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

During the launch event, Carol Parsons, Pedal Peak business officer, will discuss how to make the area the ultimate destination for cycling and how it can benefit businesses.

Pete McNeill from Adventure Pedlars will talk about inspiring adventures and how to meet cyclists’ needs.

Businesses will also discover how to make use of the Inspired by the Peak District brand. More than 400 businesses have already signed up to the brand, which celebrates the National Park while helping companies to strengthen their offer from their association with our high quality environment.

Lindsay Rae and Kate Kearns from Marketing Peak District and Derbyshire will highlight business opportunities through the Growing the Visitor Economy in Derbyshire programme and the ‘Inspired by’ community.

The launch event includes a light buffet, informal networking and the opportunity for one-to-one advice on the initiatives. The event is FREE for visitor economy businesses (accommodation, attractions, activity providers, cafes, pubs, restaurants etc) based in Derbyshire.
