Autumn colours will no doubt stop walkers in their tracks this season, but visitors to Quarry Bank are being encouraged to take a closer look at nature.
Stuart Brown, a ranger at Quarry Bank, said: “The trees are beautiful at this time of year and if people take a few moments to explore what is around them they will discover so much more.
“We have a variety of fungi at Quarry Bank, there will be fruit and berries in the hedgerows and if you listen out you might hear birds of prey such as the local buzzards.”
This autumn the Quarry Bank estate is even more accessible after a new path in Chapel Woods opened earlier this year thanks to funding from WREN and the FCC Community Action Fund. The new path is buggy and wheelchair accessible, meaning that everybody has an opportunity to explore the natural world around them. There are 250 acres to stomp around at Quarry Bank – perfect for a brisk autumnal day.
Stuart said: “There are so many habitats to explore from the woodlands to the riverside and the fields.”
As well as a wealth of wildlife to discover, autumn is also the perfect time to experience some of the National Trust’s 50 Things To Do Before You Are 11¾.
There are falling leaves to be caught, bugs to be found and pooh sticks to be dropped off the bridges over the River Bollin. Fallen twigs, branches and even seasonal fruit also provide the opportunity to create some wild art.
“At this time of year it can be easier to spot birds because the trees are more exposed. 50 Things gives families loads of inspiration for discovering nature together and bird watching is a great place to start,” said Stuart.
