Members, volunteers and staff of Macclesfield charity SUSO were joined by local MP, David Rutley, for the organisation’s annual fundraiser recently.
This year, the well-attended event at Macclesfield’s Tytherington Club had a spook-tacular Halloween theme. Thanks to the generosity of guests, over £2,500 was raised to support SUSO’s important work with adults with learning disabilities and additional needs in Macclesfield.
SUSO offers its users much-valued opportunities for friendship, helping to develop skills, confidence and well-being through a variety of activities, workshops and volunteering opportunities at its drop ins, which are open four days a week at its premises on Old Park Lane, Macclesfield. In addition, SUSO works actively within the local community to raise awareness about learning disabilities.
David has worked closely with SUSO since it first started as a small advocacy group. At the fundraiser, David thanked volunteers and staff at the charity for their tireless commitment and dedication, and spoke about how he continues to be impressed by the way the charity assists so many members with learning disabilities. He also heard about SUSO’s exciting plans to increase the involvement of corporate sponsors, both large and small, to support its fundraising efforts, community engagement, and help the charity develop its skills and resources.
Speaking after the event, David said, “It was a pleasure to join volunteers, supporters and staff from SUSO for their annual fundraiser. I am grateful to all those who gave generously to support this great local charity, which does important work creating opportunities for local adults with learning disabilities. It was good to hear about the charity’s positive plans for greater corporate engagement, and I would encourage local business to look at how they can support this excellent local charity going forward. I look forward to continuing to work with SUSO in the months ahead.”
