The High Sheriff of Cheshire paid a visit to Lymm Fire Station and Safety Central last month to experience the role of a firefighter at Lymm Fire Station and tour the state-of-the art centre dedicated to public safety.
Sarah Callander Beckett spent the morning at Safety Central, a centre which provides a truly immersive learning environment, where people of all ages can develop the skills and knowledge they need to stay safe, touring the facility as a young person would.
She got involved with an interactive quiz, watched a bedroom fire develop, took part in some hazard spotting, and undertook some accident investigation.
Later in the afternoon Sarah got to see Lymm Fire Station and step into the role of a firefighter. Putting on a fire kit, she got involved in all kinds of operational drills on the yard and in the indoor technical rescue training area – even going up on a hydraulic platform.
The High Sheriff of Cheshire, Sarah Callander Beckett said: “The new state of the art Fire and Safety facility at Lymm is truly outstanding. Blending a first rate educational facility with Safety Central alongside the functional duties of the Fire Station, I was able to fully appreciate the wonderful work these dedicated people do.
“It will become one of the must-go-to experiences for schools and social service providers in the county. One of the most enjoyable experiences of my year so far!”
Chief Fire Officer and Chief Executive, Paul Hancock said: “We were absolutely delighted to welcome The High Sheriff of Cheshire to Lymm Fire Station and Safety Central, and I am so pleased that she enjoyed every minute of her visit.
“It is important for us to showcase what we do and our new Lifeskills Centre, Safety Central. I would also like to show my appreciation and thank the team that accommodated Sarah on her visit. Their professionalism and commitment were highlighted by The High Sheriff as a credit to the profession. I wholeheartedly agree with her.”
