New year, new start offered to young people in Macclesfield

Are you, or do you know, a young person who is looking for a new start to 2018? If so then why not consider The Prince’s Trust Programme for a life changing experience.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service is offering young people from the Macclesfield area the opportunity to take part in a free Prince’s Trust programme.

The course, which starts on Monday, February 5th and runs for 12 weeks, will give local young people between the ages of 16 and 25 the opportunity to learn new skills, complete qualifications and gain greater self-confidence.

The team will be based at Macclesfield Fire Station for the 12 weeks and will take part in a number of activities to graduate from the programme.

These included:

  • Raising money to complete a community project
  • Food Hygiene and first aid courses
  • Health and safety and driving awareness training
  • Attend a week long residential with team building activities

Team members will also gain a wealth of skills and knowledge, including project management, mock interview training and work experience.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Youth Engagement Manager, Jessica Burton said: “This programme is ideal for any young person who is lacking in confidence or is stuck and doesn’t know what to do with their life.

“It’s free and designed to help develop young people’s skills and confidence through practical community projects and work experience. The primary focus here is team work within the community which supports our local neighbourhoods.

“Experience shows us that 80% of all graduates from the programme have gone on to achieve great things as a result, including getting back into or going forward into education or gaining employment and training.”

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has had a long, strong and proud partnership with The Prince’s Trust for almost 25 years and continues to see the benefits that arise from the work it does. The programme aims to move young people into full time employment and job related training.

Programme Manager Josie Shearman said: “A new year is always a great time for any life change, so make that resolution today to improve your life. I know you’ll enjoy the experience, meet new friends and more importantly you’ll gain qualifications and grow in confidence. Also if you know a young person who has lost their way in life then this programme is definitely for them, so call me.”
