Buxton Mountain Rescue annual fundraiser

Members of Buxton Mountain Rescue Team held their annual fundraising event in Macclesfield Town Centre.

Thanks to the generosity of Macclesfield residents, almost £450 was raised on the day, all of which will contribute towards supporting the Team’s mountain search and rescue work in and around the Peak District. The Rescue Team, comprising sixty volunteers and their border collie search dog, Griff, also co-ordinates closely with the emergency services to support their response to a range of other incidents.

Funding is even more of a priority for them going forward, owing to the severe weather experienced earlier this year. This, combined with the recent hot weather, has resulted in the team already having responded to sixty-four incidents of people missing, injured or in difficulty out in the Peak District so far this year – twenty per cent more than last year, with between eighty and ninety incidents being the average number of call-outs recorded throughout the entire year.

Local MP, David Rutley, who met up with team said, “It was great to once again meet with Buxton Mountain Rescue Team and to have the opportunity to thank its members for the vital work they do to keep people safe when out in the Peak District.
