In 2017, artist Laurence Payot was supported by a Barnaby grant to create a new work which reimagined the town’s silk heritage using art and digital technologies. Last month, the project was awarded funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. This project is Silk is the Soul.
To help make Silk is the Soul, Laurence and film-maker Tim Brunsden are looking for young people aged 11-18 to work with them, to experience what it’s like to make a digital artwork. You’ll learn about virtual reality video techniques, and other aspects of making a cutting-edge digital artwork.
They also want to hear from people with a specialist knowledge of the silk industry, who are happy to share their stories with the young people involved in the project.
You can find out more about how to be involved in this exciting project at the Silk is the Soul facebook page or visit the SITS stall at Treacle Market this Sunday, 24th Feb, where Laurence herself will be able to tell you more!
