With the new bowling season upon us, local MP, David Rutley, joined members of Macclesfield Bowling Club, for the officially ‘opening’ of the Green for 2019, in the Club’s 90thanniversary year.
After giving a short address to mark this special occasion and to congratulate Macclesfield Bowling Club on reaching this very impressive milestone, David had the honour of taking the first wood and rolling the Club’s inaugural bowl, formally launching the start of the 2019 season. He was joined in this by bowling veteran Ray Owen, who, at 90 years old, is the Club’s oldest member.
Following the opening of the Green, David had the opportunity to speak with Club members, including President of Macclesfield Bowling Club, Sue Munslow, about the Club’s continued success over the past year and look ahead to the opportunities for the coming months, in this special year for the Club. David was also pleased to view the Club’s new outdoor seating shelter, funded thanks to generous donations from Club members Brian and Barbara Ryalls, adding to the already impressive facilities available for members.
With a regular programme of activities throughout the year, Macclesfield Bowling Club is a great way for local residents to socialise and enjoy spending time outdoors. The Club is always glad to welcome new members, whatever their level of previous experience. Anyone interested in joining can contact Club Secretary, Jan Gates, on 01625 829 327, for further details.
Speaking after his visit, David said, “It was a real pleasure to once again join members of Macclesfield Bowling Club for the start of the 2019 season, in this very special anniversary year. As ever, the Club remains a great place for people to make friends and take part in a challenging and fun sport. I wish all members continued success throughout this bowling season.”
