Silkmen a step closer to takeover

A possible takeover of Macclesfield Town has moved a step closer after the Conference’s Annual General Meeting.

Associate director Andy Scott confirmed to Radio Manchester that the potential investors have proven to the Football Conference that they have sufficient funds to clear their debts.

The Silkmen’s website states: “The individuals leading the process of taking over Macclesfield Town Football Club Ltd have been in regular contact with representatives of the Conference in recent days to keep them informed of progress.

Payment in full by the Club of its HMRC debt and actions taken by the potential investors before the Conference AGM to demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to meet the Club’s outstanding payroll have satisfied the Conference Board that the investors have the ability to sustain the Club going forward.”

Macclesfield revealed that they were in talks with potential buyers in January.

The club reluctantly put its plans to be community-owned on hold in December because of its financial troubles.

The Silkmen finished the 2013-14 season in 15th place in the Conference Premier, 10 points clear of the relegation zone.
