The Macclesfield Beer Festival celebrates it’s 25th anniversary and a number of free tickets are on offer to help mark this milestone.
The Macclesfield Beer Festival takes place at Macclesfield Rugby Club, Priory Lane, on Friday, May 10, and Saturday, May 11. Organisers are celebrating the 25th birthday by offering three pairs of tickets as a competition prize.
Entrants are asked to submit a photograph from a previous Macclesfield Beer Festival highlighting the spirit of the event. The three best images will each win a pair of tickets forSaturday’s evening session.
Ben Whiteley, one of the festival organisers, said: “Twenty-five years is a long time, it started off with 10 or 15 beers and raising a few hundred pound for charity and has grown and grown since. I think it shows the community spirit of Macclesfield and is a testament to the hard work of volunteers who want to make it better and better.”
He added: “The atmosphere is great, it is a real fun party in the evenings and the afternoon session is more family orientated. It’s a big event on the social calendar.”
This year there’ll be a selection of around 250 beers, ciders and perries on offer – including Red Willow-brewed Selfless – brewed especially for the festival. There’ll also be gin and prosecco bars for non-beer drinkers and a range of live music.
This year’s chosen Beer Festival charity is Cheshire Search and Rescue, last year’s Space4Autism received £21,000.
At the festival the Saturday afternoon session (an extended four hours from 12.30pm to 4.30pm) is free and will feature family entertainment and facepainting. Tickets for each evening session – which are 7pm to midnight – are £10.
The first festival was organised by the Macclesfield Round Table after members had travelled to a similar event in Chester, enjoyed it immensely, and decided to recreate it in Macclesfield.
