A dance academy based in Macclesfield recently celebrated a decade in the business.
Macclesfield’s Sylk Dance Academy was established on an informal basis in 2009 and now instructs about 250 dancers. Amy Mayers created the academy with Becky Anderson and she persevered with the project when her friend decided to do other things. “It is something I had always wanted to do. Even in the year book at Fallibroome Academy I wrote that this was what I was going to do” said Amy.
Amy, 32, who lives on Mill Street, admitted that there is more to running Sylk than she envisaged. In particular, she stressed that administration and getting on with people have been important ingredients in her success.
According to Amy, the academy has developed into something like a family. She has not got any plans for starting anything else. Her studies have served her well and she was astute enough to learn marketing as well as dance.
Sylk was born in Broken Cross Social Club with just four classes being held. Since then, the organisation has secured a base on Union Road and has secured the use of several other Macclesfield venues.
