The ‘Drome’ is reborn

The ‘Drome’ – officially the ‘Picturedrome’ – reopened its doors yesterday as a food market hall.

The brainchild of the team behind Manchester’s Mackie Mayor and Altrincham’s Market House, the Drome, on Chestergate, has been transformed into a huge canteen, replete with nine kitchens and stalls and two bars – surrounding a communal dining area.

Steak specialists Tender Cow, fish bar Fin and sourdough pizzeria Honest Crust are among the food traders, who’ll be stationed alongside bars from Reserve Wines and Blackjack Brewery, and a chocolate shop from Sam Joseph.

A board inside the hall reads: “Picturedrome is the third spiritual sister in the Market Operations family.

“Home to over seven outstanding kitchens, a coffee shop, chocolatier, craft beer bar, and wine bar and merchant, Picturedrome is an attempt to enrich lives by providing high-quality, everyday food in a social setting – where families, friends, and strangers get together around shared tables and ‘break bread’.

“If we can win our way into Macclesfield hearts we hope we can return the favour and become the beating heart of this great and ‘proper’ town and find our part into its noble history.”

Built in 1911 as a cinema, the Drome became a bingo hall in the 1970’s before being converted to offices.
