Seven teams, from Macclesfield and Knutsford schools, took part in the Youth Speaks Competition organised by the Rotary Club of Macclesfield Castle.
It was a hugely successful evening for Tytherington School, whose team won the Senior Competition and were both winners and runners-up in the Intermediate Competition.
The All Hallows Catholic College Team were runners-up in the Senior Competition.
The judges praised all the teams on the high standard of the presentations and Rotary District Governor Patrick Tyrrell presented the certificates.
Tytherington teacher Mrs Anna Burke said: “We were absolutely delighted with the success of our Senior and Intermediate teams – particularly as it was not easy for them to follow the success of last year’s team. All of our students worked very hard on their presentations and enjoyed the experience of competing with the teams from other schools, who were also excellent and provided stiff competition! We are hugely proud of all three teams and look forward to taking part in the District Final”.
Six of the Tytherington School students won Individual Awards: Best Chairperson Awards for Emily and Iolo, Best Speaker Awards for Isabella and Morgan and Best Proposer of the Vote of Thanks Awards for Lily and Alice.
Tytherington headteacher Mr Emmanuel Botwe said: “I am delighted that we have progressed to the next round of this wonderful competition. Well done to Mrs Burke and her excellent students who have worked tirelessly to make this happen. I’d like to thank the Rotary Club who continue to support local schools”.
Rotary President Mary Grant was impressed with all the presentations: “Our local area has a strong tradition of success in public speaking and Macclesfield can be proud of our young people. In recent years, teams from All Hallows Catholic College, The Fallibroome Academy as well as from Tytherington School have won the local competition and progressed to the District Final”.
