Cheshire East Council is closing Bollington, Poynton and Middlewich Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) at 5 pm on Sunday 4th August.
If you need to visit Macclesfield, Knutsford, Alsager and Crewe HWRC’s during weekends or Bank Holidays, you’ll have to book a slot online before you arrive – yes really!
The council say that this is so that “queues and people’s waiting times can be managed” – evidently someone at Cheshire East has retained their sense of humour.
HWRCs in Macclesfield, Knutsford, Alsager and Crewe will stay open for an extra hour during weekdays, i.e. up until 6 pm.
But all’s not (completely) lost: If you live in the Bollington, Poynton and Middlewich areas, a mobile household waste recycling service is being set up. That’s right, they’re closing the tips but organising mobile collections. What’s that going to do for the council’s ‘green’ agenda?
The mobile HWRC will alternate between Bollington, Poynton and Middlewich – each town will receive one visit per month – on a Saturday, from 8 am until 10 am.
The words ‘Pi** Up’ and ‘Brewery’ spring to mind
Cheshire East Council says “The changes are being introduced on a temporary and trial basis to ensure essential savings are made in 2024/25.”
The truth is Cheshire East Council isn’t fit for purpose – if it had not ploughed vastly more funding into Crewe and Congleton than Macclesfield, we wouldn’t be in this fix.
As we now have a Labour run council and a Labour MP (and government) – it’s doubtful we’ll see any criticism of the council from Westminster.
