Macclesfield residents must be delighted to learn that a major highways project, linking Crewe to Leighton Hospital has been opened.
The opening of yet another Crewe improvement project appears to indicate that Cheshire East’s preferential support for the Crewe area continues.
The council’s generous expenditure on that part of the county may also help account for the council’s parlous financial state.
The scheme includes a 2.6 km single carriageway road and seven new roundabouts, improvements on the A530 Middlewich Road and Minshull New Road and extension of the Connect 2 walking and cycling route to Leighton Hospital and north west Crewe.
Tottys Hall Way – a part of the £51m Crewe Northwest Package scheme was opened officially by Cheshire East Council’s highways and transport committee chair, Councillor Mark Goldsmith.
Councillor Chris Hilliard, Cheshire East Council’s walking and cycling member champion, said: “It’s great to see another highways scheme complete, which has a really positive focus for cyclists. Connectivity to Leighton Hospital has been a critical part of this project and cyclists and people on scooters will benefit from this as well through the walking and cycling routes within the area. The completion of this scheme will also enable more staff and visitors to choose walking or cycling to and from Leighton Hospital.”
The scheme was supported by £10 million from the government’s Housing Infrastructure Fund and a £5 million grant from the Department for Transport’s National Productivity Investment Fund.
