Above: note this is not a photograph of the incident referred to – nor is it the dog responsible.
Cheshire police have posted this item on sheep worrying on social media.
“At some point between yesterday evening (24/10/24) and this morning (25/10/24), twelve sheep have been killed in fields located between Buxton Road and the River Dane on the outskirts of Congleton.
“For those who know the area, that is fields on your left as you leave Congleton in the direction of Bosley crossroads. In addition to the twelve deceased sheep, more are injured and many more severely distressed.
“Most of the sheep suffered significant bite marks to their throats, with two drowning in the canal – clearly the unnecessary pain and suffering that the sheep have been subjected to, was very significant and completely unacceptable!
“In addition to the suffering caused to the sheep, once again members of or hard-working farming community have been left facing large unnecessary bills through absolutely no fault of their own.
“If your dog was responsible – please do the right thing and come forward so we can discuss the matter. This will reflect far better than if we have to come knocking!
“If you were in the area (perhaps walking along the adjacent canal tow path) and heard or saw anything we would also like to hear from you.
“Incidents like this are all too common, we encourage all dog owners to take a look at the Operation Recall website, read the guidance, follow the guidance and sign the responsible dog ownership pledge! https://orlo.uk/PXRIX“
