Naked is ok, but don’t say anything deemed offensive!

An angry shopper complained to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) when a naked man wandered around Macclesfield.

The shopper spotted the naturist on Mill Street, on Friday morning and watched as he wandered into a café.

After confronting the naked man, they reported the incident at Macclesfield police station but he was told that the naked man was not committing a crime so the matter could not be taken further.

The complainant explained why he had taken the matter to the IOPC and said: “I followed him into the café to let him know what I thought of his behaviour.

“What was even more amazing is when I reported it they told me he was doing nothing wrong so they would not be doing anything about it.

The offended man even took a photo of the nudist to show to police and help with identification.

Following his unsatisfactory response, he wrote to Chief Constable Mark Roberts and local MP Tim Roca.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) confirmed it has received the complaint and had submitted it to Cheshire Constabulary.

A Cheshire Constabulary spokesman said: “On Friday, November 15, a member of the public attended Macclesfield Police Station and reported that he had seen a man walking naked on Mill Street.

“Following enquiries, a 36-year-old man from Macclesfield has since been arrested on suspicion of public order offences in relation to the matter.

“He is currently being questioned in police custody. Enquires in relation to the matter remains ongoing.”

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 quoting reference number IML 1963265.

We’re guessing that is anyone had said anything deemed offensive by Macclesfield police they’d have been immediately arrested.

That’s two-tier policing for you!
