Police advice is not to get into a taxi – if it’s not clearly marked!

Police are reminding people not to get into cars that aren’t clearly marked as taxis after an 18-year-old woman was assaulted in Wilmslow.

Police are investigating the assault which happened in the Water Lane area between 4.30pm and 5pm on Friday 15 May.

The victim was approached by a silver saloon type car with a yellow sticker on at least one door. The car also had a grey cloth interior. She got into the car after the driver gave her the false impression that his car was her taxi.

She was then assaulted by a man sitting in the back of the taxi but managed to escape.

The driver is described as white with a slight tan, in his mid 30’s and of muscular build with chiseled features, brown eyes and perfect teeth. He had a bald head and had the word ‘Holly’ tattooed on the back of his neck.

The passenger is described as being in his late 20’s with olive skin, dark eyes, of slim build and of generally dirty and unkempt appearance.  He had very short, dark but curly hair and his teeth were bad, with some clearly missing.

DS Antony King said: “We would ask the public that when they order a taxi or if a vehicle stops and the driver claims to be a taxi that they ensure the driver is wearing a valid photo identity badge with their taxi license number on it.

“If in doubt call the taxi company you originally called and double check the taxi is theirs.”
