Officers are appealing for information from the public and asking anyone handling scrap to be on the lookout for a quantity of lead which may have been stolen from a church roof in Warmingham.
The incident is believed to have taken place on the evening of Wednesday 27th May at St Leonard’s Church in Warmingham near Sandbach.
PC Colin Wray from Congleton Neighbourhood Policing Unit said: “The damage caused by the theft of this lead is going to cost a significant amount of money to repair.
“Not only was the lead stolen from the church roof, but the offenders are believed to have damaged a number of gravestones and turrets on the building, showing complete and utter lack of respect for their surroundings and visitors to the church.
“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who was driving through the area late on Wednesday night or into the early hours of Thursday morning who may have seen any suspicious activity at the church.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 497 of 28/5/15
