Around 100 people attended an event to mark the strong progress made by the BioHub, at Alderley Park, and its imminent handover to Manchester Science Partnerships (MSP) from AstraZeneca.
A Hawaiian style barbecue was held at the Mereview Restaurant, giving those involved in the project an opportunity to celebrate the progress made over the past two years.
Local M.P. David Rutley spoke about the positive achievements at the BioHub and how life sciences are a vital part of the Government’s vision for a Northern Powerhouse. At the event, Rowena Burns, Chief Executive of MSP, spoke of her enthusiasm for the development of the site, its future prospects, and the support available for more businesses wishing to move there.
Over 400 people are now employed at BioHub, which was initially established by AstraZeneca. The BioHub has been set up to allow pharmaceutical and life science companies to take advantage of the world class facilities available at Alderley Park, while operating entirely independently. BioHub is being managed by BioCity, a leading bioscience incubator, and acts as a collaborative R&D centre, benefiting from Alderley Park’s scientific heritage and its state-of the-art research facilities. Positive progress has been made, with over 100 companies now listed as tenants.
Speaking after the event, David said, “It was a pleasure to be invited to this deserved celebration of the progress made at the BioHub. Life Sciences are clearly a strategic priority, locally, regionally and nationally, and I shall continue to do all that I can to support this essential project going forward.”
