Photographer seeks your help

Timperley photographer Steven Williamson discovered a number of black and white photographs whilst going through his collection.

He remembers taking the images around 40 years ago in Macclesfield, but can’t remember where.

Steven told us: “I used to have a camera with me all the time and would take pictures of anything I saw, people, objects, scenery. I was really inspired by the photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson who was famous for his candid black and white pictures.”

Well being old Macc folk, ilovemacc has been able to help with the where, and half of the who.

The where is Shackletons Cycle Shop, 2 Church Street, Macclesfield – on the corner of Churchside – now Whitaker & Biggs estate agents.

It’s where I would go for spares for my bikes then, as I got older, airguns.

Now for the ‘who’.

We reckon the gentleman in the overcoat and flat cap is the father of the two Shackleton brothers.

He’s the spitting image of one of the brothers, both of who worked at, then later ran the shop during the late 60’s right up until the 90’s or early 2000’s.

As far as the man on the left in the dark suit is concerned, we haven’t a clue – but someone out there will recognise him.

Email editor@ilovemacc.com if you’re able to help.
