A host of ex-professional footballers and celebrities will take to the field at Macclesfield Town’s Moss Rose stadium next month to raise money for the community devastated by the Bosley Mill fire.
Former England and QPR winger Trevor Sinclair and Manchester City legends Paul Dickov, Shaun Goater and brothers Ian and David Brightwell will be joined by ex-Coronation Street actor Scott Wright and BBC Radio Manchester’s Mike Sweeney for the Bosley Wood Treatment Memorial football match on Sunday, September 6.
The game will be overseen by Premiership referee Phil Dowd and is the latest in a string of events organised by the Help Bosley support group.
Organiser Darren Broomhead, from Help Bosley, said: “The fire on July 17 ripped the heart out of our village. But we are doing all we can to help out the families of those who lost their lives and the wider community.
“We’re delighted that so many ex-players have agreed to play in the match and I am sure this will be a great afternoon.”
Other ex-players include Frank Sinclair (Chelsea), Rae Ingram (Man City), Mamady Sidibe (Stoke City), Tony Naylor, Martin Foyle, Andy Porter (all Port Vale) and Darren Tinson, Phil Power, Efe Sodje, John Askey (all Macclesfield Town).
Goalkeeper Brian Jensen (currently of Mansfield Town) will also be involved.
Kick off is at 2pm with the gates opening at 1pm. Entry is £5 for adults and is free for children accompanied by an adult.
The stadium’s McIlroy Suite will be open for food and drink and there will be a cake stall and charity raffle, which will include a number of signed football shirts.
